‘Network Resilience’ is a hot topic within the water industry, with the regulator reducing supply interruption targets. Network models offer a great planning tool to assess the performance of a rezone without putting any customers at risk, and providing some off the shelf solutions which could be deployed by less experienced team members.
In the past, network operators have relied on the knowledge and experience within their operational teams to implement solutions during burst incidents. However, with modern working practices, increased staff turnover, and reduced knowledge transfer, it has become increasingly difficult to manage these situations.
HydroCo have developed a robust methodology for modelling network resilience, and identifying all feasible alternative supply solutions on a District Meter Area (DMA) basis. We have assisted many water companies with producing a impact contingency plan library, to offer reassurance to network operators in times of crisis.
